Suri Alpaca Fiber Facts

Suri alpaca fiber is one of the most luxurious and rare fibers in the world. Only 10-20% of the US alpaca population (and less in the world) are Suris. They are known for their silky lustrous hair like fleece. The fiber is more like mohair from Angora goats than sheep’s wool. Suri fiber does not have crimp like the other breed, Huacaya. Alpaca fiber in general does not have lanolin which makes cleaning the fleeces much easier as well as more eco-friendly. There are many ways to enjoy Suri alpaca fiber from handspinning, weaving, knitting, needle felting (for surface), and wet felting.
